Shangguan Elementary

Our lessons in Shangguan aimed at not only teaching kids basic musical abilities while fostering an appreciation for music, but also giving them a chance to learn English vocabulary. We began our lessons with a group performance of "Lava" by our own members, and ended with teaching the kids how to play a few songs such as "Row, row, row your boat." Though we wish that our lessons could have lasted longer, we are glad that we were able to develop these kids' interest in music and bring smiles to their faces.

Lesson 1

  • We started with a member performance of "Lava" to interest the kids with a ukulele version of a popular song

  • Our lesson began with understanding parts of the ukulele, strumming, and chords in both English and Chinese

  • We played games such as Simon Says and group quizzing with prizes to actively engage our students

  • Our lesson ended with practicing simple songs with the C chord

  • We taught more complicated chords such as G, F, G7, and C7

  • After splitting into groups, we practiced songs such as "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" and "兩隻老虎 (Two Tigers)" and prepared for the group performance song
